When a brand hosts a sweepstakes what is the purpose of it? Do they want lots of traffic? Entries? Sales? What I don’t think they expect is sweepers to enter in droves. What they forget is that SWEEPERS ARE CONSUMERS TOO! Yes folks, we buy groceries, cars, clothes, and the latest gadget. We buy houses, furniture and send our kids to college. We spend money just like non-sweepers do. The only difference is we like free stuff and try to “win what we can’t afford” because for the most part, we don’t have enough money to buy everything we would like. If we had enough money we wouldn’t be entering sweepstakes, that’s for sure.
If we aren’t entering sweepstakes we are potentially missing out on all kinds of new products and services we would never learn about. I enjoy trying all kinds of new things and sweepstakes is just one way I get that chance.
What brands need to do is send the sweepstakes to me and other sweepstakes sites to promote so we can send them new, potential customers. My job isn’t to get the sweeper to buy though. My job is to help them to find out how they can win. The brand’s job is to get the consumer to buy the product by being creative in their approach or having a good product you and I will want to buy.
Over the years I have become a loyal customer for many of the brands we use regularly because I won a product years ago that introduced me to a new brand. Winning a prize is no different than a brand giving out a sample – well, except for maybe the value – because when I try something I have never used before I might just fall in love with it and want to buy it again.
