So, put those reading glasses on Mama because we’re going to TEXT TO WIN!
To determine if you can send text messages, the best thing to do is look at your cell phone’s manual or contact your wireless service provider. Most cell phones today have the texting capability. It may cost 25¢ per text to use this feature but if you buy a monthly package it will be just pennies. Once again, contact the people who provide your cell phone service such as AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Cingular and others for the specifics because each phone and service plan is slightly different.
Although cell phones and wireless services may differ, texting is pretty much the same on most cell phones.
When you text you are sending a message to another phone or service setup to receive text messages.
When you call another phone you use 7 numbers for a local call or 10 numbers for a long distance call.
When you send a text to enter a sweepstakes you use something called a short code. It is usually only 5 or 6 numbers.
METHOD #1:
- On the keypad of your cell phone key in the short code numbers.
- Look for the word Options or More on the screen.
- Press the button just below the word Options to reveal a menu.
- On the menu that pops up look for New TXT Msg (or something similar).
- Use the arrow key on the keypad to move down to that option.
- Press the OK button.
- The shortcode will show up in a text message screen and the insertion indicator will be blinking.
- Type the letter, word, or phrase the sweepstakes requires making sure you spell the word or words correctly. You can use all lowercase letters even if it shows capital letters in the official rules.
- Press the Send or OK button on the keypad.
METHOD #2:
- Press the button just under the word Message or Menu on your cell phone’s screen.
- Use the arrow key, if necessary, to move down to New Msg (or something similar).
- Press the OK button on the keypad.
- Press the OK button to select TXT Msg.
- Key in the short code number on your cell phone keypad.
- Press the OK button. This moves you to the text box and the insertion indicator will be blinking.
- Type the letter, word, or phrase the sweepstakes requires making sure you spell the word or words correctly. You can use all lowercase letters even if it shows capital letters in the official rules.
