Trend Micro announces the 2019 What’s Your Story? Video Contest. Answer this year’s question for your chance to win $10,000 or other great prizes!

This year’s challenge is to create an impactful video around the question, “If you could have one special power that would make life online better, what would it be?” We are encouraging contestants to stretch their creative muscles when considering some of the biggest challenges we face today on the internet, including privacy, hacking, hate, misinformation, and overuse, and what they could do to make it better for everyone.

The Grand Prize is available for each Individual Entrant, US School Entrant and Canadian School Entrant selected and consists of $10,000 or equivalent in Canadian Dollars and each School Entrant Grand Prize consists of $5,000 or equivalent in Canadian Dollars. Four (4) Runner-Up Prizes are available, two (2) for Individual Entrants and two (2) for School Entrants. Each Individual Entrant and School Entrant Runner-Up Prize consists of an Apple iPad Pro (12.9 inch display).

How to Enter:

1. Make sure you’re eligible to compete.

You must be 13 or over to enter this contest and currently enrolled in school (middle school, high-school, K-12, college, university, film school.).  If you’re under 18, you will need parental or guardian approval. You can also compete as a school, where teachers can register their classrooms to enter.

2. Register on the site.

3. Work on your video.

Plan out your video. Be funny. Be dramatic. Be creative. Use live action, stop action, animation, music or none. Whatever you do, be real.

4. Submit your video.

Log back into the site and follow the steps for uploading your entry.  You’ll get an email that will either confirm your entry has been approved or will ask you to edit and re-submit it.

Trend Micro, a global leader in cyber-security solutions, through its Internet Safety for Kids and Families (ISKF) program, has launched its 2019 What’s Your Story? Competition, an international video contest that empowers youth to be leaders in educating others about being safe, responsible, and successful online. In its ninth year, the annual global contest is designed to give young people a platform to educate others and nurture safer, more responsible use of the internet. The competition is supported by Google, Twitter, the Cyberbullying Research Center, and other organizations.

The What’s Your Story? competition was first launched in 2010 and has run successfully in more than a dozen countries worldwide. Prior winners and finalists can be found here, which includes lead singer of band Twenty One Pilots, Tyler Joseph when he was a student.

The Contest is open to two categories of entrant: (1) individuals and (2) schools

With respect to Individual Entrants: the Contest is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States, District of Columbia, Canada (excluding Quebec) who are students in grades Kindergarten to Grade 12 or students actively enrolled in a university, college or film school (no commercial film-makers); and have not previously won a prize in this Contest in the past five (5) years.

Note: teachers or parents must be the registrant for students under age 13 at time of entry; or parental consent is required for those age 13-17 years of age at time of entry

With respect to School Entrants: in the US, the Contest is open only to public and private schools, Kindergarten to Grade 12, located in the fifty (50) United States and District of Columbia that comply with laws and regulations for the state in which they operate; and in Canada, the Contest is open to all Canadian schools, Kindergarten to Grade 12 (except in the province of Quebec) – including previous School winners of this Contest. School entrants do not include colleges, universities or institutions beyond those that are at the secondary or high school level in the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec).

  • Entry Deadline: April 16, 2019
  • Rating and Comment Period Deadline: April 30, 2019
  • Winners Announced: On or about May 14, 2019


  • Grand Prizes: $10,000 for best student entry from either the U.S. or Canada, $5,000 for best Canadian school entry and $5,000 for best U.S. school entry
  • Runner-Up Prizes: 4 iPad Pros  – 2 for individual entries and 2 for school entries
  • Honorable Mentions: To be selected at the discretion of the judges and listed on the contest site
