On Saturday we were at a park eating lunch and I found a super nice Blackberry (see picture to the right) just sitting on the park bench.
What to do!
Should I keep it?
Take it home?
Sell it?
Try to find the owner?
All of a sudden I kind of felt quilty that I was even holding something so valuable that didn’t belong to me. I had to look over my shoulder to see if maybe it was planted there to trick me – to see what I would do with it. Was I on TV?
Well, after a little while my husband and I agreed that I would look through the phone to see if there was contact information. I found the owner’s name and address. I dialed the phone number was in his address book labeled, Work. A lady answered the phone and I asked for the person who’s name was on the phone. She handed her phone to him and I asked if he owned a Blackberry. He said he did and I told him where we were. Within 15 minutes he showed up and claimed it.
It made me feel good that I gave it back to it’s rightful owner. It would have also felt good to have a new Blackberry in my pocket but I decided against that. Can you just see the little Satan on one shoulder and the Angel on the other telling me – Keep It! – No, Give it Back! – No, you know you want to keep it! and on and on.
So, what would you do?
That’s so very nice of you to return that as lucrative and enticing as it may seem to keep it.
Earlier this year, Mr. Man lost his wallet while on the Harley and by the time we got home, someone had left a message telling him they found it; over $200 untouched.
I think it all comes back to the golden rule. Do unto others..
