As some of you know, yesterday the article (10 Creative Ways to Earn Extra Money) that featured my site made it to the front page of MSN. When it landed there my site blew up with traffic. It started around 3 to 4 AM EST just as I was getting ready to go to bed. I decided to check my site one more time to see who was on and I saw 200 on the live hit counter (bottom right). I decided to stick around because there was a party going on in the chatroom.
Around 5:30 am I couldn’t see straight and went to bed. I was so excited that I could only sleep about 5 hours. When I got up I couldn’t believe my eye – 1,500 people live on my site! There were so many people that my chatroom crashed for about 3 hours. Over the course of the day I ended up with just over 90,000 unique visitors and all because of that article on MSN because they made a clickable link to my site.
I want to welcome everyone who is visiting for the first time and thank you for taking the time to figure out what this site is all about. I know there are also some sceptics who are wondering why I would offer free advice. Wouldn’t it bring down my odds some have asked? And who gives out free information anyhow without asking anything in return?
I don’t see it that way. There are thousands upon thousands of sweepstakes listed at any given time and I could never enter all of them. You won’t even find that many listed on my site. You will have to go to other sweepstakes sites if you are looking for lots of sweepstakes to enter. I win my fair share of prizes and I figure there is plenty to go around for everyone so why not share the wealth? I have always enjoyed teaching people what I know whether it be computer/techie knowledge, sweepstakes knowledge, or sharing life experiences that might help someone else get through a situation I have been through.
If you are a Newbie Sweeper you might be asking a few questions so here are a few answers.
Where do I start first?
I believe the first thing you should do if you are considering entering sweepstakes is to get yourself free email address just for entering sweepstakes. If you already use Gmail you can setup another Gmail account and hook the two together. When the email comes in from sweepstakes entries you can have it go into a special folder to keep it separate. If you don’t use Gmail I highly suggest it although you can also use AOL, Live.com, or Yahoo if you prefer.
Will I get tons of Junk mail?
What I get the most is newsletters from companies sponsoring sweepstakes I have entered. I get the normal spam everyone gets like people from other countries telling me they are deathly sick and need me to help 🙂 but those go in the spam folder. I really don’t get anything else. I do get notified something when I entered a sweepstakes as a confirmation and of course I get winning notifications from Instant Win Game prizes I won and sweepstakes prize notifications.
Where to find sweepstakes to enter?
Well, of course I am going to suggest my site. I do post sweepstakes and I try to keep them to ones with good odds, sweepstakes that might not be advertised too well on other sweeps sites, restricted sweepstakes for certain states, age groups, etc. and I give you tips, codes, and other advice to figure out if you have a chance of winning. My site is all about helping to make you a winner, not post sweepstakes.
Besides posting sweepstakes I try to encourage people to keep entering when they aren’t winning, give you an opportunity to chat with other sweepers and myself in the live chatroom, help you solve problems with sweeps, and let you tell the world about your wins in my weekly winners post.
Thanks for visiting now let’s get winning!
Congratulations, Wendy! Now I know why your site was taking forever to load last night. 😉
Congrats on the fantastic traffic increase! Maybe someday my frugal blog will get there as well. 😀
