Now through February 7, 2020, share your story about your own home town for a chance to have your town featured in this amazing project. Show, tell and sell the network on why your small town should be the one town featured in the upcoming event series, Home Town Takeover.
HGTV Home Town Makeover Criteria

- Homes must have great architecture.
- Your town must have a Main Street that needs a facelift.
How to Enter the HGTV Home Town Takeover
After checking off the list above, head to the Home Town Makeover’s website to upload your submission. The application asks a few questions, and includes a section for you describe what your town is like. To be considered, you must upload photos, but the site notes that a video is “even better.”

I love HGTV-you are better than the President at making America great with all the renovations that you do. The town I grew up in is in the contest to be renovated. They submitted a beautiful vide but I do not know how much they told you. Elmira was named for a little girl -her mother was always heard calling her name-“Elmira.” It used to be a thriving town in it’s day. The downtown has no major stores anymore they are all located in the Malls outside of town. We have two prisons (one on the Southside and one on the Northside.) Many people relocate here to be close to their loved ones. We have two Hospitals , a Pyschiatric Center, and a College (soon a Doctor’s College-it’s in the process of being built) so we are a hub for the Southern Tier. There is a lot of low income housing. There are lots of beautiful old homes though too many in need of repair. The year I graduated (1972) there was a major flood. Almost everything was flooded but our spirit wasn’t washed away. Elmira also had a tornado which damaged our church and took the mortar out between the bricks. The First United Church of Christ was built in 1898. We are always repairing it. I always go to Elmira on Sundays. I live in Horseheads but was born and raised in Elmira. I know you would be helping many people where ever you go especially in Elmira.
We submitted Montello for consideration….after all, what other town has a beautiful set of waterfalls right smack in the middle of town?? We do! And our poor downtown is in serious need of a facelift as you will see from the submitted video and photos. It also boasts the origin of the granite used in Grant’s Tomb. Although the quarry is closed, there is a beautiful pond nestled behind the waterfalls. There is a TON of history here and the residents are always there for each other to help and support no matter the need may be. Lived here for 10 years and am extremely pleased we did. Quiet, solitude and community members who care for each other. What more do you need? A RESCUE from Ben and Erin! Ben will love it here as there is a lot of great wood working in the old stores which seriously need his skills to bring back to life! Please PLEASE pick Montello!
Sandra, you need to send this to HGTV to enter. Their server crashed so they just sent out an update about it on Twitter and said: If you want to enter make sure you add your video link to http://www.dropbox.com and then email [email protected] with the link
I would like to nominate Clearfield PA. We are located in the Central part of PA. Our little town could really use a takeover. We were once nominated as an All American City. Our town has many Architectural buildings. Most of the stores are vacant downtown except for a few businesses still in town. Updates to our street lamps and brick sidewalks was recently done with Grants from Penndot. We are a friendly little town with mostly a retired community. Unfortunately, I didn’t see this contest until today 2/6/20 so guess I can’t get a video to send which would show you our beautiful little town that really needs updated.
Our town is planning to submit a video for the HGTV HOMETOWN TAKEOVER before the deadline Feb 7. Unfortunately the website appears to have been hacked. Is there another method of submission?
Privacy error message is display. This has not been the case before tonight.
Yamhill, Oregon is a great small town to consider with much history! We were actually the first town in the late 1800s on the stagecoach path from the Oregon coast to Portland. We had the first small town grocery, the first small town with electric lights, and first with concrete roads. We were bustling with a fine hotel for travelers but that all changed with new transportation and a fire to the hotel. First the trains were routed around our town then the roads for better routes to the beaches. Leaving our town last for investment and opportunity. This afforded us with a rich history in becoming a farming community. Later we were a logging town but still without desirable roads. Now, we are a small community that has sustained over the past century. We have built community with old fashioned charm and fun with our annual Derby Day Celebration and parade since 1949. Our local store T&E is a town staple since 1903 but it is in need of much repair. Many of our turn of the century buildings and main street homes also need extreme repair. Please choose us to make over our town! We are submitting a video as soon as the website is back up and running. Please don’t let us get bypassed again!
Amsterdam NY has entered. Built into the hills of the Mohawk Valley in Upstate NY. We need you! Lift our spirits! We have suffered tragic loss and absolutely, positively need HGTV to revive our Main Street. A mall dropped (70s) in the middle of east and west Main and the historical buildings of downtown are failing. Please lift the spirits of our community and my beloved friends. This cohesive city of less than 20k needs you in so many ways. We are Amsterdam Strong but have suffered so much loss. HGTV can help! Thanks!
We are trying to submit our application, but it is showing that the Home Town Makeover website page has expired. Any suggestions?
There is an issue with the submission website — says it’s a security certificate problem!
Today is the deadline to submit for this contest and the website won’t load (same on several different browsers).
Can we use maildrop?
No, only dropbox.
While I was born and raised in Fowlerville, MI. Last year my wife, who was also born and raised in Fowlerville. Bought a house in Stockbridge, MI. This tiny little village is very festive, honest, and quite astonishing. We come together as a community for everything. From deaths and births to helping your neighbor. Ive only been here a year and im happy to call this my home. I have met some pretty great people here. We little things to entertain us. But they do a large part of keeping everyone happy. From our small park and play structure, to our tiny bowling alley. The library is always busy with readers, movie shwoings, special events for holidays. My kids are there most of the time. Except when its summer and theyre at the park/ skate spot. Thank you for this chance to help this community. GO STOCKBRIDGE, MI.
Please, please, please choose a town devastated by Hurricane Michael! So little federal help, but so many people passionate about rebuilding their towns!!!
I know the deadline has passed for entries to the contest, but I just wanted to add that for our town of Mount Holly, NJ, we also have one of the most diverse student bodies in our schools in the nation, and our kids are really good to each other….I think this is so important to note in the overall climate of our country right now….we are a town of different cultures and beliefs but still support each other in our community….please consider our town for your show….
When will they be announcing the winner?
Trying to enter my town
I live in a small town in rainsville Alabama with very loving people. Smart businesses are struggling and need help including mine. My home need repair and because I am a widow I have no help. I didn’t know about the contest but I love your show on HGTV. I love how you are the only ones that like my mom used to say YOU CAN MAKE A SILK PURSE OUT OF A PIGS EAR. You are generous and love people. God bless you.
