Update: It appears some things are salvageable in Melissa’s house. If you are or were able to help, thank you. If not, please just spread the word. I am sure she would appreciate it and there are others in her neighborhood in the same situation. Read Melissa’s Update on the Flood.
@consumerqueen One of my blogging friends, Melissa, better known as The Consumer Queen, just lost everything today in the Oklahoma flood. Here is an excerpt from the story over at Mommy Brain Reports (another blogger)
You may know her as Consumer Queen.. I also know her as Melissa Garcia… a fellow Walmart Mom … and a truly hard-working, selfless, giving mom, wife and daughter. She has a pretty nifty blog, and uses her coupon and money saving powers to stock up on some awesome products that she donates to people in need. Well this time, she’s the one in need. She is a working mom, her husband works from home due to his disability. She recently sold her home in order to buy a new home with more room so she could take in her mom who has been very ill… They moved in about two months ago, and were finally settling in…
Well, today, while she was at work, her children called her screaming and crying. Water had come in and flooded her house….. Her boss took her home in her vehicle since it would get through the flooded streets. Melissa came home to Firefighters rescuing her pets and family.
I just got off the phone with her, and her family is safe at another family member’s house, but she’s lost everything in her home. Over 2 feet of water came in (red mud and all) and covered all of her new furniture, and electronics. Her appliances are yet to be determined. They are waiting for the water to recede so they can go back and pick through what’s left. They didn’t have flood insurance… They don’t live on a flood plain. Their only hope now, for relief is if they get government aid from disaster relief.

If you know Melissa you know she is a fun-loving gal who blogs about saving money and records all of these crazy videos. This one is my favorite.
Not only does she keep a rigorous schedule of blogging she works full-time to keep insurance because of her husband who is unable to work and is now taking care of your mother.
If you can donate in anyway or help get the word out on Twitter or Facebook it would be greatly appreciated. If you click the button to donate below it will go directly into Melissa’s Paypal account.
Earlier today when I first heard about what happened the donations were around $800. I can’t believe how high it is getting! Keep spreading the word and add the widget to your blog if you can!
This needs to be on wishuponahero.com
I agree wholeheartedly, this needs to go to Wish Upon a Hero. Hugs & Blessings, my heart goes out. Please keep us SweetiesSweeps subscribers informed, would love to help out where I can.
With much love and healing hugs,
RH
We’re praying for you all.
Blessings,
Pam in Oregon
I am so sorry to hear this.
No everyone who reads this, CHECK YOUR INSURANCE POLICIES. If you live in an area that gets flooding, even once every decade or more, flood insurance more than pays for itself if something ever happens. Peace of mind is priceless.
I live in Edmond and our house was flooded yesterday too. The water was over the slab in the back yard and just started coming in! I understand!
What are the ages and sizes of her kids? Can we send clothes and toys somewhere?
I wish I could send her what she needs. I will be praying for her and her family.
I am happy Melissa that you and your family are safe but I am so sorry for your loss. My Prayers are with you and your family
