You may have seen the word contests many times over the course of your life and wondered exactly what it means.
A contest is really a competition between individuals or groups. A contest differs from a sweepstakes which is a game of chance. A contest is a skilled-based promotion that requires that you have some type of knowledge of a particular subject to enter or has another requirement to participate. A contest is a competition between individuals or groups and may include voting by the public or a panel of judges.
When you participate in contests you could be competing for cash, products, gift certificates, cars, trips, or maybe just the pride of being crowned the winner. Some contests may require an entrance fee and this is usually explained in the official rules or if no rules are available you may want to ask if there is a fee to enter.
Some contests you may want to enter include essay or story contests, recipe contests, photography contests, sports contests just as ESPN or football fantasy games, trivia contests, or YouTube contests.
You probably think of a contest when you go a local agriculture fair. Entrants compete with their livestock, pies, quilts, vegetables or fruits. The winner may win some cash but usually they win blue ribbons if they are the contest winner.
Unlike a sweepstakes where the winner is picked through a random drawing and there is no purchase necessary, a contest does require some work, skill or ability to enter and some contests even require an entrance fee.
Because a contest requires some work less people enter them so it is often easier to win prizes. If the winner is picked by a panel of judges it is much easier because then it is just up to them so I feel like I have a better chance of winning. If you have a group of friends who likes entering contests you might want to work together to vote for each others entries.
