Today I learned about a brand new service called Manilla. Manilla is a free online service that helps you manage and organize all of your household accounts, including financial, utilities, subscriptions (like magazines) and travel rewards programs, all in one secure place online.
After taking a tour of the site and setting up my own account, I wanted to make sure I told you everything I learned about this great new service. Before I forget, I also wanted to mention that there is no software to install and it is completely free and will remain that way in the future.
Manilla.com is a one-stop bill payment service too. Once you add all of the companies you have to pay bills for you can pick the bill you need to pay and it will show you what is owed and give you a button to pay it right then and there. Manilla isn’t responsible for discrepancies with your bills so you will still need to contact the company concerning those types of things but Manilla will provide you with detailed bills, many times more detailed than the company you are paying. And, you can save them in PDF format for your records.
Paying bills and keeping up with rewards and subscriptions can be a pain because you have to log into each site individual or wait until something comes in the mail about it. That takes up a lot of time. With everything all on one convenient site you become more organized and don’t have to worry about anything coming in the mail or having to log into other sites. It also cuts down on paper waste and saves trees.
I found out that Manilla will allow you to put all of your accounts on their site, no matter how many you have. I created an account and it took just a few minutes to setup. If you want to test it out just add a few of your rewards programs like an airline or hotel. I added my Marriott Rewards card to get started. Since I never have time to check my rewards programs I saw how many points I had instantly once I linked up my account. I think it has been well over a year since I was in my Marriott Rewards account. This is definitely going to help
You can add accounts a little at a time as you have time. It is easy to add telephone or cable companies, magazine subscriptions, or even your bank account. If you don’t find your local bank or a local company or even a specific magazine subscription you can send Manilla a request with a click of a button so they can add it to their system.
This is what the “Add Account” screen looks like. Pick an account from the Popular list on any of the category tabs or type it in the Search box.
If you have an account number with a company but not an online account with that company, Manilla will also provide you with a way to setup an online account right from their interface. When I added my Marriott Rewards card number it gave me that option.
Another time-saving feature is that Manilla will notify you when something needs to be paid or there is some kind of notice about a subscription expiring or rewards points update. You can get notifications by email or text. That means no more late fees because you forgot to pay a certain bill. Having everything in one place helps you to stay organized and gets rid of a lot of stress. Log in everyday and look for the notices.
This is what my Manilla dashboard looked like after I added my Marriott Rewards account. On the far right (not shown) is a also reminder column. This is what you see when you log in so right away you can check on things you need to do that day.
How Secure it Manilla? I asked that very question because I am interested in protecting my identity and the answer I got is that Manilla has a security team that goes through security audits on a regular basis. They have bank level security in place which means multiple questions and steps to go through if you forget your password. Each bill you pay also requires their own security steps. They are verified by MacAfee Secure, VeriSign, and TRUSTe (see the icons at the bottom of the screen) Manilla is a Hearst company so you can be assured they take security seriously.
